Description:
The Division has two Juvenile Justice Teams. One team provides services to the north end of the County and is housed in the Neenah Human Services building while the second team serves the south end of the County and is housed in the Oshkosh Human Services building. To a large extent Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 938 governs the work duties of these teams. The intent of this Chapter is to promote a Juvenile Justice System that will protect the community, impose accountability for law violations, and equip juvenile offenders with competencies to live a responsible and productive life. The Juvenile Justice Teams provide a range of services to families where there are behavior problems such as delinquency, uncontrollability, runaway, or truancy. Case management services focus on assisting families in overcoming problems that the family is experiencing which have resulted in Juvenile Court intervention. Case management services include an assessment of the youth and family, treatment plan development and implementation, counseling either directly or by referral, completion of reports to the Juvenile Court with recommendations for treatment and supervision, supervision of the youth’s behavior as directed by the Juvenile Court order or Deferred Prosecution Agreement, and consumer advocacy. Social workers work with parents and youth together, to facilitate needed changes regarding the youth and family. Social workers also work with the schools and partner with school personnel to support the educational needs of their consumers. The Juvenile Justice workers make referrals to and coordinate services with other area service providers such as hospitals, counseling clinics, and chemical dependency programs. When necessary, court ordered sanctions for violations of rules and court conditions are utilized to hold youth accountable to their court orders. Out-of-home placements are utilized when the youth can no longer remain in the home for safety reasons
